Challenge

This project had the obstacle of removing damaged sheathing from under the shingles. Having good solid roof sheathing is important. It helps to bear the weight not only of the shingles, but the snow and ice. Sheathing helps redristubute weight more evenly. Having a good layer of sheathing can also help keep roof leaks to a minimum or completely eliminate them.

Solution

Sheathing is primarily made of plywood sheets or wafer board, or even in some cases wooden planks. They are then nailed to the rafters and most times covered by a felt or other material that helps shield from the elements. This home was in need of new sheathing because it was getting old for one, but also started to split and splinter which created many leaks throughout their roof.
