Late Friday afternoon on April 21, 1967, the most destructive of 9 tornadoes in the Midwest touched down in Oak Lawn, IL. It has been reported that many witnesses saw the funnel cloud kicking up dirt as it destroyed everything in its path. There was a blinding rainstorm, then golf ball size hail, and then a grey/green funnel cloud swirling through the various streets. Within 15 minutes, it had traveled over 16 miles at speeds well over 60 mph and had destroyed numerous homes, roads, vehicles, and sadly had taken some lives as well.
